Handsome Brodie looking for his new home

Age – 8 years

Sex – Male

Location – Yorkshire

Mr Brodie is a lovely dog who needs someone that understands bassets.

He can be vocal on walks around other dogs but is easily distracted with treats. Brodie needs a confident dog in his new home. Brodie has a significant dislike of cats, so no small furies in the home.

He loves people, however he will make you earn his trust, treats are always favourable, but meeting new people has to be on his own terms. Once he's happy with you he is more than happy to have cuddles and fusses.

When leaving Brodie home alone, he is quite vocal about his distain of being left; he seems to stop once you are out of sight. We are sure this will be overcome with confidence and love.

When Brodie initially came to us his skin was a little pink, however this has cleared up wonderfully with no ongoing issues. His ears do get dirty and will need regular cleaning as is common with Bassets.

He sleeps on a high bed, this has been recommended by the vet because he is showing signs of arthritis in his back. The bed is something that new owners must be prepared to keep with. His back is being treated with YouMove and a coat on when it's chilly on walks. He will require a ramp or steps to get into a car. He's happy to travel in the car, and goes like a steam train for the first 5 minutes of his walk, then settles at a lovely pace enjoying his waddles.

He's fully house trained and will ask to go out to toilet. He's happy to sleep with resident dogs in the same room.He does like his space whilst eating, although the current resident foster dog is in the same room they are kept separate. He does have a dislike to the hoover and brooms!

We would suggest that Brodie needs a small furry, small person free home, a confident resident dog and basset knowledge to enable Brodie to continue thriving.

Are you what Brodie is looking for?

Brodie is looking for a home that includes the following;

  • Someone who is at home more often than not and prepared to put in the time to help him settle and learn further
  • Someone who is prepared to work with on going training whilst on lead using only positive reinforcement methods. BRNGB will be able to assist with this. We do not agree with any negative training methods.
  • A home with a patient, playful, confident resident dog or two
  • Brodie loves a walk, and needs physical and mental stimulation.
  • Patience and time to spend with Brodie in the crucial first few weeks as he adapts
  • No small furies, birds, cats......
  • We do not adopt to households with children under the age of 5 however, we would recommend Brodie is not in a home with children under secondary school age as he find small people confusing

Taking on a rescue dog is not the easy option. You need to be prepared to help a confused and troubled hound find their place in your family. They have been through a massive upheaval and will need time to settle into a new way of life, so please consider this BEFORE you fill in an application.

Brodie is subject to an adoption fee and a successful home check. If your home check is successful, your family, including any resident dog will need to be able to travel to his foster home to meet him and his foster family.

You will also have a telephone call with a member of the team, plus Brodie's foster family, so that all of his history can be shared with you in person, and that we can be assured that you can fill all of his needs and requirements.

Brodie comes with 5 weeks free insurance via our rehoming partner, Agria.

Brodie as with all of our hounds will have full rescue back up for life.

Thank you for reading Brodie's blog. Please share where you are able.
