Awesome Homes Required!

Puppies Puppies!

APPLICATIONS CLOSED!

So here's the blog you might have been waiting for!

Millie's litter of pups turn 8 weeks on Tuesday, and so we now begin the search for the perfect home for each of them. They are based in Essex.

They are a heavenly mix of basset hound and beagle, who will bring love and joy to their lucky owners

Get ready to be disappointed.

We know we will have hundreds of offers of excellent homes for our BRNGB babies. If you are not chosen, it's not because we don't think you'd be good owners, or we don't appreciate all the support you've given our bassets over the years, it's just there are not enough puppies for all the wonderful homes – although we will have plenty of other bassets needing homes very soon. For the observant amongst you, who have been following the puppies, you might wonder where the other four beauties are, Samuel, Sammi, Joe and Dawn. Well the good news is that they have already found their forever sofa, and will be joining their new families as soon as they are ready to leave Millie.

If you are interested in applying for our pups, please be aware that there will be a few differences in how the adoptions will work. To begin with, if you are chosen, following an in-depth homecheck and conversations with the team and their foster mum (think of it as an interview!) then there are some non-negotiables.

Firstly, neutering. We will ask you to sign a neutering agreement and provide us details of your vets so we can pay for this and ensure that it is done. This is to absolutely ensure that none of our dogs are ever, ever used for the vile practice of backyard breeding, which as you know, is a massive issue, and has exploded during the pandemic.

Secondly, once neutered, then and only then will we transfer the microchip into your care, until then, they remain registered to us, as a rescue.

Thirdly, we are crazy about these pups and would love to watch them grow, so you'd have to be willing to keep in touch with us and be up for a reunion!

If you have any issues with any of these caveats, please do not apply.

So…on to the puppies!

Meet Arthur

He's a king among puppies, with a lovely spotted "ermine stole" around his shoulders. Mostly black and white, he has some lovely brown colouring coming into his face giving him the sweetest expression. Despite being the firstborn puppy, he is one of the quieter pups, happy to snuggle and play with his siblings. His long legs have meant he is always the first to climb out of the pen and reach up for toys and cuddles. I imagine he will be a superb counter cruiser as he gets older. Although he's not as boisterous as some of his littermates, Arthur knows his own mind – especially when it comes to taking medicine and having his nails clipped. Arthur enjoys investigating things and sees no reason why food and water bowls can't be toys.

Meet Cuthbert

This little fella has oodles of character. He is always at the front of the queue, whether it's for food or being picked up. He is also among the first to climb out of his pen. Unfortunately, Cuthbert is also a blue-coated puppy, who was grey when born. With his bright blue eyes, like Joe, he may need help with allergies later in life, though right now he's about as stoppable as a Sherman tank. Like Dog, I think Cuthbert might be quite high-energy as he grows, looking forward to long walks and lots of fun with his family.

Meet Dog

He's the blue-eyed ringleader. If there's trouble you can bet Dog is in the middle of it. He has two kissing spots on the top of his head and mischief everywhere else. He has long legs and a definite beagle look. Dog was the first puppy to get a name. In fact, he got it within minutes of birth, by quickly asserting his strong character. I believe Dog will need a very active family for when he's old enough to go on walks. As a puppy, he will undoubtably steal, destroy and entertain. That might not end with puppyhood.

Meet Louise

She's a super little lady with a lot of character. She's always at the forefront of mischief, whether that's escaping the crate, grabbing the newest toy or pushing the others out of her way when the food bowl arrives. Louise is not a shrinking violet. She is happy to go off by herself to try new things and has been practicing her howl since she was three weeks old. This pretty tricolour is affectionate, funny and bold. She even takes medicine and (for now, anyway) co-operates when it's toenail time.

If you are interested in giving one of our beautiful puppies a home, and you have no issues with our three non-negotiables listed above, then please follow the link below to apply. Please be aware, there will be great demand for these special hounds, so please put as much information in your application as possible. We read through each one, we discuss them all as a team. We love reading applications that really stand out and give us a flavour of who you are as a family, and what you can offer our dogs.

Applications will close in two weeks, on SUNDAY 4th JULY. We aim to be in touch within two weeks, but PLEASE be patient with us, we all have jobs and families outside of our rescue roles, which can sometimes make things difficult!

FAQ's

Here we will attempt to answer some of the more frequently asked questions about The Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain and adopting a Basset Hound.

All our hounds are subject to an adoption fee and a successful home check. If your home check is successful, your family will need to be able to travel to their foster home to meet them and their foster family.

As these are puppies, and we don't want them, or Millie overwhelmed or at risk of infection, we are waiving the requirement to bring your dogs to the meet and greet. However, please think long and hard about whether your resident dog is tolerant, playful and respectful of other dogs.

Bathtime

Our pups all come with 5 weeks free insurance from our Insurance partner, Agria.

Please share this blog where you are able.
