We hope you are having lots of Springtime fun with your Basset Hounds! It's always such a relief to see the lighter evenings, I know that mine particularly enjoy them, as we can go for much longer walks instead of a drag around the pavement in the rain! Here's a little round up of our latest goings-on!
We have a lovely new calendar on the website, which is filling up with lots of houndy events. There are so many great things to do with other basset owners, it's a great reason to get out and meet some new friends. If there is no event near you, then why not organise an event of your own? It's really easy to do, here's a checklist of things to think of:
- Find a suitable place to walk. Look for easily accessible areas with good parking, toilet and cafe facilites if you can! We do love a sit down and a chat after a long walk. Look for a walk that lasts about 2 hours. Some people will travel miles for a basset waddle, so it's best to make sure they will get a decent walk. In the summer months, picnics are a great idea, you can stop half way round and have some lunch!
- A mid morning time to meet is a good idea, popular walks meet around 10:30 am and the walk will start around 11am. It's a really good idea to have a contact number available for people who are late or lost!
- Do have a go at the walk yourself, so when you come to advertise it, you can give us as much information as possible. People might want to know, for example, if the area would be accessible to wheelchair users or small children.
- Off lead opportunities are really good for a large pack of hounds! Try to find an area that has some space for off lead sniffing!
- You can email us to put your event on the calendar and we can publicise it for you. Contact us here: BRNGB
- If you arrange it...they will come...and it's likely that more walks in your area will follow!
Have a look at our events calendar to get an idea of some of the established walks. Don't forget to send us in any pictures you have taken, so we can share them!
Paula's Funday....great news!
Our fundraising garden party in Paula's house is now less than a week away! We are getting very excited..and we have some really great news to share! Our very own Daisy...the little lady who inspired Paula to offer her house to us for the day....is going to be the guest of honour! Don't miss this event!
You can find out the details on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1551079745156136/ and in our events calendar: http://brngb.com/index.php/events/event/1-paula-s-garden-party-and-waddle
We are really looking forward to seeing her again. She's been having a wonderful time in Wales, she's settled in really well with Liz and Jeff. She's been seen by her new vet, who has rather taken a shine to her, and things are progressing well. At the moment, we are pleased to say she is still symptom free and is slowly putting on a little weight. Here are some pictures of her in her new home:
We just love her so much, and we want to make the rest of her life as happy and healthy as we can. Please come and support her if you can.
Rutland Water Waddle
If you can't make the Garden Party, there is another event going on on the same date, in Rutland Water, Leicestershire. Matt and Kelly Ireland are organising this one, fundraising for us. Matt and Kelly adopted our beautiful long termer, Sasha, who has epilepsy. Money raised will go directly to help fund Sasha's monthly medication as well as all our other hounds. Details of the event can be found on our calendar, here:http://brngb.com/index.php/events/event/7-rutland-water-waddle and there are bacon butties available! Bonus!! Huge thanks to Matt and Kelly for arranging this.
For all you lovely people who live up in the North, the wonderful Clare Hodgson, who arranges the Wirral walks that raise a lot of money for us, has arranged a really special event!
On Saturday, 20th June, there will be a wonderful chance to meet up with lots of bassets and have a walk....followed by a BBQ! In a pub called The Basset Hound!
Full details can be found on the calendar by following this link:http://brngb.com/index.php/events/event/6-wirral-basset-hound-bbq
This looks to be a really great day, Clare is also hosting a Fun Dog Show and a raffle, all in aid of us here at BRNGB. Big thank you to Clare, and all who come to her events.
Martin's 10k run in aid of BRNGB
We hear that Martin's training is progressing well! He's running the Caerphilly 10k on the 20th of June. If you haven't sponsored his Herculean efforts, here's the link to his GoFundMe page: http://www.gofundme.com/mjp10km
And here's a rather lovely little picture of him ready for anything....
Isn't he fabulous! Go Martin!
South Wales Dog and Charity Funday
We took delivery of our very first banner that we are going to have on our stall at the charity funday! This will be our first stall at a dog show, so we are all a little nervous! We would love to see as many friendly faces as possible, so pop down and show us some support! We are planning a Doggy lucky dip and the selling of various wares! The wonderful Heidi has been sewing like crazy, making bunting, bags, bandanas and all sorts to sell! Find the details here: http://www.fonmoncharitydogshow.com
Bonnie and Bella
We are still looking for a forever home for these beautiful ladies. We hope that they are not being overlooked because of their age! Mature ladies are fun too! Here's the link to their original blog, even if you can't help, if you share it, hopefully we can find that home we know is out there for them.
Gertrude was rehomed to Rebecca and her mum, also called Gertrude earlier this month. We are so pleased to let you know that she is settling well and loving life with her new owners! We know she is getting spolied rotten, and she truly deserves it!
Here is our lovely Peggy, loving life in West London! She's doing brilliantly well with Yvette and Josh!
Oscar is having a fabulous time settling in by the sea at Scarborough with Matt and Rosie!
Please don't forget to keep in touch with us if you have adopted a hound from us! We do love to see pictures of them settled and happy in their new homes!
So, with so much going on over the next few weeks, we hope to meet up with lots of you for some great fun days. As always you can keep in touch with us via email, facebook and twitter (@bassetrescuenet) so there's no excuse not to get involved!
