Welcome to another newsy blog from us here at BRNGB. There is certainly lots going on at the moment, we are really busy with dogs in and out, plus with all the events happening around the country! We hope you have has a lovely spring bank holiday, and as we enter June, hopefully the weather will be kind to us all so we can get out and about with our hounds!
South Wales Dog and Family Funday
On Bank Holiday Monday, we got up at the crack of dawn, to drive down to Fonmon Castle, just outside Cardiff, to attend the South Wales Dog and Family Funday. We did it last year and had an amazing time, so we were all looking forward to a great day! The weather was looking very good, we had bought our brand new pink gazebo, we were ladened up with our wares, so off we went!
At this point, I could go on about the start of the day when we got there, as the organisation was really poor compared to last year, but I won't because it entails wet feet, (or in Sam M's case...a wet body...the foster dog was a bit of a puller!) plus an awful lot of swear words that nice ladies like us are not supposed to use...but in our defence, it was bad!
So...we got to our allotted area, and began to set the stall up.
Now, at this point I could go on about how the organisers had changed the style of the event from last year, and put all of us charities in the back end of nowhere so we couldn't really feel the atmosphere...but I won't. But it was a shame, considering last year we could hear all the announcements and fun going on in the main arena.
However, our stall looked utterly amazing, and we were pleased with our new gazebo, we stuck out like a sore thumb, no one else had one! Particularly impressive was our new bunting, made by Sam M, featuring all our adopted dogs! It certainly made us very proud to see all the hounds we have rehomed over the last 2 and a half years!
We had our famous Doggy Pick'n'Mix, a Where's Mum's Purse board, our own merchandise of bags and mugs, a children's lucky dip that was very popular, plus some donated bric-a-brac. We had also been donated the most amazing handmade cards and jewellery from our wonderful supporters Colette Colman and Shona Beaver, which definitely added some pizazz to the stall! Thank you so very much, ladies!
It was a slow start, but gradually it began to get busy and our stall was never empty! We met loads of bassets, and plenty of other sorts too! Everyone was so lovely, the sun was shining, and much laughter was had! Lorna and her husband John came down with Flash and Beau (Beau was adopted by Lorna in December) plus their foster hound Doug, who is absolutely gorgeous, and stole all our hearts!)
We had a really fun day, we caught the sun, ate burgers and crisps, and made new friends.
We made nearly £200 and we still have loads left to sell at our events throughout the year. Thank you to all of you who supported us.
Gareth's Bike Ride for Betty
We hope you remember the beautiful Betty, who is in long term foster with Deborah and Julian because of her heart condition. Our Transport Co-ordinator Gareth, has signed himself up at VERY short notice to compete in the Virgin Cyclone Challenge event, on the 18th June, to raise funds for Betty's continuing care.
Now, this was originally planned to be the 34 mile route, due to Gareth not really having trained for it before signing up for it, but, he will up it to the 64 mile course if his training goes well! We hope you don't over do it Gareth, we need you for our transport runs!!
Please follow the link below if you can spare a pound or two to sponsor him on his Just Giving Page. Every pound helps, and every pound goes directly to Betty's fund. We think Gareth (although slightly mad) is a real champion for taking this on, and we are suporting him all the way! Go Gareth!!!
