As I write this, we have 20 dogs in foster, 2 coming in this weekend, and more waiting. This is the busiest we have ever been. Our hounds have never needed us more.
But we have to be realistic. We cannot take any more basset hounds into rescue at the moment, because we simply do not have the foster spaces to accommodate them.
In short, we are full.
We have the most amazing team of fosters, they are kind, considerate and dedicated, but they also need breaks and holidays, and with the silly season once more upon us, we have reached a point we never thought we would.
So, today, we are asking you, could you be a foster carer for us?
We are looking for people who have a spare place on their sofa, some time and patience, some dedication and to be honest, some determination to help the basset hounds that need them so badly.
We are not looking for people who think that fostering is an easy way to adoption. Fostering is challenging, emotionally draining and hard work, but it is the most rewarding thing you can ever do, we can assure you of that!
We need people who can be that stepping stone into a new life for a hound, someone who can see beyond the silky ears and the doleful eyes, into the dog itself, and help us find the right forever home.
Could that be you?
We can offer you an incredibly dedicated team, who are on hand to help and guide you through your fostering journey with us. You'll have access to our online forum, dedicated to our fostering team, where you can speak freely and receive advice. We can offer you laughter, and sometimes tears, but one thing you will receive from fostering is the knowledge that you are making a difference to a hound's life. You are making the change. You will only be asked to supply food for your foster dog, all veterinary care and other needs are paid for entirely by us. Our bassets come to us with a wide range of needs, from just the simple vaccinating and neutering, to addressing anxieties and health issues, you'll certainly never be bored, and you'll find you have skills you never knew about!
Please consider becoming a foster for us. If you would like to know more, please fill out the Foster application below, and our Fostering team will contact you to have a chat and answer any questions you may have.
We'll leave you with one of our favourite quotes;
"I would rather cry watching a foster pet leave my home to live a full life of happiness and joy, than cry because no one stepped up to help, and the animal died alone, frightened and sad, in a shelter."
Fostering saves lives. Help us save a life today.
Please share this blog where you are able.
Thank you from all our basset hounds, past, present and future.
