We have had one of the busiest starts to Summer! So many hounds, events and waddles! We hope you've been enjoying the warm weather, although many of our furry friends haven't coped well in the heat. Keep Cool!
Here's a little round up of the latest news.
Back to Benita's
On Saturday July 9th, our lovely friends Benita and Nigel offered up their garden and hospitality to the basset hound community for a post waddle fundraising party. The waddle took place around the beautiful Berkshire countryside and followed the Wiltshire and Berkshire canal back to Newbury where we met up with Jill and baby Riley...who has now become one of our latest foster fails! (More about him later!)
Once we got to Benita's house, we were greeted with a glass of fizz and some nibbles. All the dogs were brilliantly behaved, and had a wonderful time chasing each other around, whilst all the adults took turns smoothing a very willing Baby Riley! Benita and Nigel served up a fantastic lunch of chilli and rice, plus an amazing vegitarian dish...and more fizz for those who weren't driving! Apart from a couple of Chilli Chancers, all the dogs were great around the food. Our wonderful Gillian provided a raffle and was selling the very popular turkey coconut ice treats and liver cakes cooked by Jill.
The grand total for the day was an amazing £120!
Thank you to Benita, Nigel and Sir Henry Hound for giving up their garden and their amazing generosity and hospitality. Special thanks go to our very own Gillian, for some fantastic organising and fundraising, and to Jill for the for the raffle prizes and the treats. It was fantastic to see everybody there, put some faces to some names and to meet some of the hounds we know so much about.
What a great day!
On Sunday July 17th, we gathered at Debbie and Tony's house in Melksham, Wiltshire for the very first Basset Hound Olympics! Debbie had kindly offered up her massive garden to host this event for us and it was a lot of fun! Altogether, we had 29 hounds (plus a Collie) for some fun and frolics!
Everyone had a chat and a cuppa, we met up with Michelle and Mark, our latest foster failures with little Barney! We weren't surprised at all, he's gorgeous! Michelle, Jill and Louise even posed for a photo as foster fails, as all three of them have BRNGB hounds they haven't been able to let go!
Soon it was down to the serious business of the events! First up was the Egg and Spoon race! The dogs even got their own home made edible medals!
The weather was a bit warm to do all of the races, so more drinks were made, and were served with hot dogs and then cake! The dogs were behaving really well (mostly...we won't talk about moody Frank...) and it was brilliant to watch them all getting on well together!
The funniest event was the obstacle course, where the dogs had to go through hoops...as you can imagine, there was a lot of coaxing being done to get them through!
We had such a great day, with so many wonderful highlights. For us, it was lovely to meet lots of new people, and some that we had known for years via Facebook but never met!
Altogether we raised £215.10, which was a great total for a fun afternoon in the sun with bassets and cake!
Massive thank you to Debbie, Tony and their family who donated their home and their time for us to host this event. You're all superstars! Thank you to everyone who made cakes, donated extra monies or bought a few trinkets from the stall and made this day so worthwhile.
Well, we have been busy! Here is a round up of basset hounds who have found their forever homes over the past few weeks!
Beautiful Mabel made the journey to her new home with Trish and her family in Wiltshire. She's settling well with her basset brother Alfie and human brother Adam!
Doug is now living in North Wales, on the coast, with his new owners Gary and family. He looks like he is having a whale of a time in the photos we've seen, and he's certainly settled beautifully.
Gorgeous Manny has found himself being a very pampered pooch in London with his new family, who love him to pieces! We've just had a wonderful update from new owner Nic, and he's a joy!
Riley came to us a few weeks ago and went into foster with Jill. He went to her as he may have to undergo surgery to his front legs. Jill has had experience with this, and immediately offered to foster. Within a week, she wanted the adoption papers! He's settled so well, plus the vet says no operation just yet, so all is looking good in Riley's world!
Barney is our 1 year old pup that came to us via Guardian Angels Rescue in Kent. They had been let down a few times with people bringing Barney back, and were in despair of ever finding him a home. We were put in touch with them by Friend of BRNGB Jo Bloyce, and after a while they asked us if we could help. We popped him in foster with Michelle, and...well... Mark fell in love with him (and she did too!) and at the Olympics he was officially adopted!
Roger came into foster from the South Coast last week and has been adopted by Lin and John in East Sussex. Alfred, their basset, has been in a bit of a slump since the passing of Amelia, his basset sister earlier this year, and has suddely found himself a new lease of life now Roger is on the scene! This makes us all so happy!
We hope to bring you news very soon about the lots of other dogs we have in our foster system at the moment. We would like to say thank you to all our helpers over the last few weeks, it's been one of the busiest periods we have ever had and we can't thank our fosterers, transporters and home checkers enough. Add to that, you, our marvellous supporters! We simply couldn't do this without you all and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
